Perlas Pilipinas routs Singapore by 26 points in SEABA Women’s Championship opener


The Philippine national women’s basketball team won their first game in the 2016 SEABA Women’s Championship in impressive fashion, routing Singapore by 26 points, 69-43, in a huge result on Tuesday in Melacca, Malaysia.

France Cabinbin led Perlas Pilipinas with 16 points while Camille Sambile also finished in double figures with 10 markers.

The Philippines now have a 1-0 record in the tournament.

The Filipinas did a lot of damage in the second quarter, where they outscored their opponents by 19 points, 28-9.

They trailed, 23-18, early in the quarter before rattling off 19 unanswered points, six of those from Cabinbin. A three-point play from Sambile with 10 seconds left in the first half made it a 19-point lead, 46-27, for the Philippines.

After giving up 18 points in the first quarter, Perlas made terrific defensive stands, giving up nine, nine and seven points in the last three periods.

Singapore only scored 16 points in the second half as the Philippines pushed their lead to as high as 28 points in the rout.
