USA Basketball beat Spain 82-76 and will play Basketball Final on Sunday!
Team USA marched on to the gold medal game after dispatching its fierce rival Spain, 82-76, at the 2016 Rio Olympics basketball semifinals that pitted the world’s two best-ranked teams.
Klay Thompson scored 17 of his 22 points in the first half to lead the Americans who aim for a third straight Olympic gold. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving finished with 14 and 13 markers, respectively.
Talisman Pau Gasol tallied 23 points to carry the Spaniards who for the third consecutive Olympics yielded to Team USA in yet another highly competitive game.
The Americans led from start to finish, although not in a dominant fashion as the Spaniards kept themselves within striking distance.
Team USA had looked to pull away after leading by 10 points, 33-23, in a highly physical second quarter that saw whistle-happy referees call six technical fouls.
Spain scored seven unanswered points to trim its deficit to three points, but Team USA, behind the hot-shooting of Thompson, was able to maintain a 45-39 lead at the break.
While it did not let Team USA, which led by as many as 13 points, break the game wide open, Spain never came close since then.
Team USA will await the winner of the Australia-Serbia matchup to determine its opponent for the gold medal game. Spain was relegated to the battle for bronze. -interaksyon.com
