Perlas Pilipinas demolishes Laos with 147 point victory

The Philippine national women’s basketball team showed no mercy in Day Two of the the 2016 SEABA Women’s Championship, cruising to a huge 147-point victory over Laos, 179-32, at the Bukit Serendit Indoor Stadium here.

Eight Perlas Pilipinas players finished in double figures with Jack Animam scoring a career-high 28 points and pulling down a personal-best 17 rebounds as she was able to use her size advantage to the hilt against Laos.

Animam also shot an impressive 14-for-17 from the field.

But she was far from the only player that shone in the rout. Camille Sambile contributed 26 markers followed by Janine Pontejos, who chipped in 19.

Mainstays Allana Lim, Cindy Resultay and Amby Almazan each tallied 18 points, while Afril Bernardino added 16. Team captain Raiza Dy had 12 points in 11 minutes of action.

Perlas nearly broke the century-mark in scoring in the first half alone after tallying a phenomenal 96 points over the first two periods.

Unlike the opening day where they had a slow start, the Filipinas jumped the gun early, scoring the game’s first 10 points then clamped down on their rivals in the second period where they held them without a field goal for an eight-minute stretch.

They gave up only three points in the second quarter as they established an insurmountable 78-point lead, 96-18, by the halftime break.

With exactly two minutes in the third period, the lead hit the century mark, 124-24, and Laos was just waiting for the final buzzer.

The lead increased to 115 in the 7:38 mark of the final quarter after Ara Abaca fed Sambile for a short stab, 141-26 and Sambile again hit a basket in the final two minutes of play as the advantage was padded to 140, 170-30.-interaksyon.com
