Will Jayson Castro play as an import in China?
Jayson Castro is reportedly considering an offer from a Chinese Basketball Association team to play as their Asian import, according to a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Castro, a two-time Mythical Five selection in the FIBA Asia Championship, is currently waiting for permission from his current team, the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters, as well as a more formal offer from the CBA team outlining details such as living conditions. The report added that a move to the CBA is possible because Castro’s current TNT contract expires at the end of next month.
A typical CBA season runs from the end of October to early February, with the postseason running from February to late March. In theory, Castro could sign a one-year deal with the CBA, and then return to the Philippines to play in the Commissioner’s and Governors’ Cups. CBA teams (except for the Bayi Rockets, the basketball team of the People’s Liberation Army), can have up to two imports.
The bottom five teams from the previous season can sign an additional Asian player. The five teams therefore who could be eying Castro are the Foshan Long-Lions, the Tianjin Gold Lions, the Jilin Northeast Tigers, the Jiangsu Tongxi Monkey Kings, and the Beikong Fly Dragons. -slamonline.ph
