PBA collected a total of P71,900 of fines in just four games

The PBA collected a total of P71,900 in fines from the four PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal matchups last week, with San Miguel Beermen import Elijah Millsap receiving the heftiest penalty of P20,000 for elbowing NLEX’s Glenn Khobuntin.

The league penalized Millsap on Monday, or two days after the Beermen knocked out the Road Warriors, 114-110, in their quarterfinals game on Friday. The incident happened in the third quarter when Millsap elbowed Khobuntin in a play which left the rookie with a bloodied cheek. Khobuntin had to exit the game for treatment. Millsap dodged a flagrant and was only called for an offensive foul.

But a review of the play prompted the league to mete out a fine on Millsap whose San Miguel squad is currently battling Barangay Ginebra in the semifinals.

Apart from the import, the league also meted out fines to nine more players and one assistant coach. Phoenix import Eugene Phelps had to pay P5,800 for a technical in their quarterfinal loss to TNT KaTropa. His teammate Cyrus Baguio also received a P5,000 fine for a flagrant foul penalty one against TNT’s Mychal Ammons. TNT rookie Troy Rosario was fined P7,500 for a landing spot infraction. Even KaTropa assistant coach Josh Reyes was also sanctioned as he got a P1,000 fine for a technical foul. -interaksyon.com
