PH’s Mighty Sports will have Jeric Teng, 5 ex-PBA imports in William Jones Cup
The Philippine-Mighty Sports team set to compete in the William Jones Cup beginning on Sunday in Taipei, Taiwan will be beefed up with several former imports in the PBA, including Al Thornton and Vernon Macklin.
Thornton has had two PBA stints with the NLEX Road Warriors and has provided fans with one of the most memorable scoring performances in recent memory when he tallied 69 points in a game against San Miguel.
“I’m excited to be back here. I was just waiting for a call, so when I was called up to play, I didn’t hesitate. The Philippines is a special place for me. It’s a great country and I love how the fans love the game of basketball,” Thornton told InterAksyon.com in an exclusive interview.
Macklin, too, cherishes his time playing in the Philippines. The 6-foot-10 former NBA player is hoping he can follow in the footsteps of one of his old Barangay Ginebra teammates and find some success in the Jones Cup.
“I remember LA Tenorio, my former teammate, delivering the winning basket and leading the Philippines to the championship,” said Macklin.
The two highly-touted imports are among the players that will lead the Mighty Sports squad in the annual tournament, where they are expected to be welcomed by a throng of Overseas Filipino Workers.
Aside from the these two, fellow PBA imports Zach Graham, Michael Singletary and Hamady N’Diaye have also been tapped by the team. - interaksyon.com
