Nicolas Batum is now headed to Manila, unlikely to play for France in its opening game versus Gilas

French swingman Nicolas Batum is now headed to Manila to join the Les Bleus for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

However, the 6’8″ versatile forward is unlikely to play for France in its opening game versus Gilas Pilipinas on Tuesday.

France national team coach Vincent Collet revealed in a pre-tournament press conference on Monday that Batum won’t suit up for his team during the preliminary round.

Batum just recently signed a five-year, $120 million contract with the Charlotte Hornets. His status with the national team had been unclear due to his free agency, but his name was eventually included in France’s final lineup.

After inking his new contract, he immediately flew to Manila for the tournament.
