Bill Walker NLEX import: I expect to win

Bill Walker is in the PBA for only one goal.

“I expect to win,” said Walker, who returns to action in the PBA Governors’ Cup as NLEX’s import.

“I didn’t fly over the ocean for nothing, I expect to win, and the guys expect to win.”
Walker’s first stint in the PBA was in the 2014 Governors’ Cup where he helped steer the Alaska Aces up until the semifinals before they lost to eventual runners-up Rain or Shine.

“The guys have that pressure on themselves, they push themselves and do something they haven’t been able to do, that’s the goal,” said Walker.

Before he does any winning, though, Walker first has to get in peak condition especially with NLEX opening game in the conference just a week away from Saturday.

Road Warriors head coach Boyet Fernandez said Walker is having some minor trouble with his knee as the former Boston Celtic and one-time New York Knickerbocker is still adjusting to the Philippine rainy season.
“May mga nararamdaman lang siya the past few days kasi hindi naman aircon nilalaruan namin [the practice facility], so nag mo-moist yung court, medyo nabubugbog tuhod niya kasi madulas,” said Fernandez.
“He’s in shape but probably knowing our system, he’s still have to adjust. He’s a good player and he’ll adjust right away.”
NLEX employs a fast-paced offense and often relies on ball pressure upon establishing defensive position.
Walker may still have to adjust physically, but chemistry-wise he’s all set.

“I think we’re pretty good and everybody’s finding how to mesh and what’s expected of each other,” said Walker. “Just being around, hanging around, we went on a bonding trip and I can’t remember where.”
Walker and his new teammates had a team-building activity in Cagayan, said Fernandez.

“We spent a lot of time together, knowing everybody and we didn’t do a lot of basketball-related stuff. I’m an easy guy to get along with,” said Walker. “They’re nice people.” -inquirer.net
