Paul Lee undergoes PRP procedure, hopes to be healthy in time for Governors Cup

PAUL Lee underwent PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) procedure on Monday and if recovery goes well, the Rain or Shine combo guard hopes to be ready for action at the onset of the season-ending PBA Governors Cup.
Lee said the next two weeks will be the crucial part in his recovery period as he has to wear an immobilizer on a left knee that has given him problems for the past few years.
After that, the PBA Press Corps Finals MVP in the recent Commissioner’s Cup will start his rehabilitation and strengthening program.
“Tiis lang ng konti, two weeks na walang galawan kasi mahirap na baka mabale-wala yung PRP,” said Lee while resting at home shortly after the procedure.
He said the long break in between conference augurs well in his recovery from the procedure. The final conference of the season won’t start until July 15.
“Medyo matagal pa naman yung third conference, pabor sa akin na medyo mahaba yung pahinga,” said the former University of the East stalwart. “Kung magiging maganda yung therapy and rehab ko, possible naman na wala akong ma-miss na game.”
The rare opportunity of a long rest is also what made Lee decide to finally undergo PRP procedure, which needed time to fully heal, even if it meant foregoing a possible stint with Gilas Pilipinas in next month’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT).
‘Mahirap naman kasing maglaro sa Gilas ng hindi 100 percent healthy. It will be unfair for everybody. At tsaka after ng qualifier, laro na naman agad sa PBA. So walang window of opportunity na maka-recover fully sa injury,” said Lee, who nonetheless still wished the national team the best in its campaign in the OQT set July 5-10 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The recurring injury on his left knee was what forced Lee to back out of Gilas Pilipinas as part of coach Tab Baldwin’s 24-man training pool.
The knee, which has partial tear on both the lateral meniscus and ITB (Ilotibial band) tendon, also made the Rain or Shine star miss the entire elimination round of the Philippine Cup and at least the first five games of the Commissioner’s Cup.
Lee struggled upon his return, but was able to regain his form starting the semis of the mid-season conference after coach Yeng Guiao started to manage his playing minutes.
